Back in the 1500s, cats were important crew members on the European explorer ships that first made their way up the Penobscot River to the place we now know as Bangor, Maine. When a settlement was built along the banks of the Kenduskeag Stream, cats protected the food supply from vermin. During Bangor's lumber boom, immigrant cats came from all over the world to make their home at the last deepwater port on the Penobscot, the Queen City of the East. Over the years, cats have witnessed every triumph and setback in Bangor's history. They were there at the beginning and they'll always be there. They’re Queen City Kitties.
